The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) has today released Apprentices and trainees 2012—early trend estimates, June quarter.
These figures provide seasonally adjusted data at the national level for apprentice and trainee commencements.
The number of trainee commencements increased to 64 600 in the June 2012 quarter, increasing from 59 800 in the March 2012 quarter.
Trainee commencements have increased in four consecutive quarters.
Apprentice commencements showed a marginal decrease, with 22 100 people starting a trade in the June 2012 quarter, compared with 22 200 in the March 2012 quarter.
The number of apprenticeship commencements grew steadily from the June quarter 2009 to the September quarter 2010. Since then there has been a steady decline.
NCVER will release detailed apprenticeship and traineeship information next month, with the release of the March 2012 quarterly data. This information will include national and state/territory level in-training, completion, and cancellation and withdrawal data.
